Myanmar’s domestic music scene is driven by a steady output of pop, club-ready hooks, and street-level rap. As tracked through Burmese-language underground coverage and local chart entries, the core listening space is built around direct digital releases, collaborative singles, and artists who pivot fluidly between hip-hop production and vocal pop.
The Dancefloor Pop of YOLO
Pop trio YOLO—consisting of members Kriz, Vic, and Han Thar—has become one of the primary dance-pop draws in Myanmar. The group’s output has found sustained traction among young listeners navigating the country’s difficult domestic conditions following 2021. Their momentum crystallized around The L Album, released on September 4, 2025, which featured cuts such as “Boom Fire,” “Loca,” “မြို့ပျက်,” “April,” and the standout track “မိုးသီး” (Moe Thee).
With songwriting and composing duties handled across the tracklist by Han Thar, Kriz Deng, and VIC VIC, “မိုးသီး” passed 450,000 views on YouTube within a month of its arrival. The trio carried that pace directly into 2026, delivering the visual for “ဆောင်း” in January and following it with “ပိုနေမြဲ ကျားနေမြဲ” in September. Under the video for “ဆောင်း,” one listener captured the steady local reception simply: “YOLO never disappoints us. Love it.”
Rap Production and Cross-Border Flow: NAY
Rapper and producer NAY operates across both the booth and the mixing desk. Having built his foundation on tracks like “ထုံပေပေနေ့စွဲများ,” “Crazy Lyfe,” and “WAVE,” his catalog reflects a collaborative approach to Myanmar rap. In 2022, he featured alongside BG18, Yair Yint Aung, Yung Hugo, Grace, D-Vision, Eillie, and VLENK on the track “အချစ်,” while picking up outside production credits on projects such as “Mother Teresa.”
After dropping the single “BRAIN GAIN” in 2024, NAY issued the project KA BAR THIT (ကမ္ဘာသစ်) in 2025. The release brought together prominent peers, including Bunny Phyoe on “NOT ENOUGH,” bkho bain and Wink on a reworking of “WAVE,” Yair Yint Aung on “LWAN KYAUNG,” and Yway on “DAFT PUNK.” His footprint extends across the border into Thailand, which Chartmetric registers as his primary streaming market, accounting for 11.3K monthly listeners. In 2026, NAY maintained his output with the September single “ÑERITO” featuring La Casa De Exito$, alongside dedicated music videos for “LWAN KYAUNG” in August and “DAFT PUNK” in October.
Hip-Hop Lineages: Ah Boy
The older foundation of Yangon hip-hop remains active in the current release calendar through Ah Boy (Kyaw Phyo Tun). A Sino-Mon artist whose career began in 2002 as a member of the hip-hop group Rock$tar, Ah Boy released his debut solo album Ta Yoke Tan (Chinatown) in 2007. After a lengthy hiatus from recording, he returned with “A Ngweh A That Myar”—a collaboration with ChanMyae MgCho, composed by Ah Boy and Tharr Gyi—which picked up the JOOX 2020 Popular Song Award, followed by the single “Kyay Kyun.”
Ah Boy’s output has accelerated over recent release cycles with singles like 2023’s “Min Nae” and 2025’s “Revison (Rock Star)” and “L O V E” (featuring H Rayz). His catalog expanded further into 2026 with tracks tied to DYNASTY, including “Fairy Tale” alongside Thiri Swe, “Yuu,” and “Moe,” the latter bringing together Khin Maung Htoo and Yair Yint Aung over production and engineering by Cracky! and guitar lines from Htoo Khant. On YouTube, he paired up with Hlwan Paing for the April 2026 video “နောက်ဆုံးကျတော့” before recruiting NAY for “One More Time” in September.
Rapping Across Genres: Poppy Pyonn
Pyonn Mya Thwe, performing as Poppy Pyonn, has carved out a lane that moves between aggressive rap verses and soul-leaning melodies. Her catalog spans early cuts like 2019’s “Heart is Stone” and 2022’s “Ma Lo Chin Tot Par Buu,” followed by the rapid-fire 2023 hip-hop single “Vroom Vroom” and “ME MYSELF & I.” In 2024, she alternated genres, releasing the Soul track “April Moe,” a corresponding pop remix, and the singles “Heartbroken Kid” and “Heartbroken Youth.”
Poppy Pyonn also stepped onto an overseas stage in 2025, performing a three-song set integrating rap, singing, dance, and live instrumentation at a Berklee Asia Rising showcase. By December 2025, she issued the single “Fly High,” then kicked off 2026 by collaborating with Cole Bryan on “Never Let U Go”—which had one YouTube viewer noting its “2016 vibes”—before releasing the solo track “Look At Me Now” in May.
Pop Focus: Mary Phyo and ALINNYAUNG
Solo pop vocalists occupy an equally visible space in the domestic market. Mary Phyo, performing under the mononym Mary, established her profile with the breakout single “Wae (ဝဲ).” In early interviews, she made a deliberate choice to steer clear of film acting to focus entirely on commercial music, a decision that led to her full-length project Midnight Thoughts and standalone tracks like “Mad Love” and “A Lin Tan Myar.” In October 2026, she returned with the music video for “Who Am I?”.
Mandalay-born singer, actor, and model ALINNYAUNG (Wai Yan Myint) has maintained a parallel trajectory since issuing his debut album Oh! My Crush in 2016. Working through the Legacy Music Network imprint, his catalog includes pop singles such as 2022’s “Chit Khae Tha Mya” and 2024’s “Min Mhat Mi Ma Lar” with Wyne Su Khaing Thein, followed by his nine-song 2025 release Inbetween Album. In October 2026, ALINNYAUNG linked up with vocalist ChanMyae MgCho for the single and video “SHAW ( ရှော် ).”
