Spotlight: “អាមុំបងអើយ (Bad Lil Boo)”
VannDa released “អាមុំបងអើយ (BAD LIL BOO)” on November 12, 2024, through Baramey Production. Written by the Sihanoukville artist and running three minutes and 36 seconds, the hip-hop single reworks an older song into a modern arrangement layered with new rap verses. Within ten hours of its YouTube release, the track climbed to No. 2 on the platform’s trending music chart, while another of his songs, “Nobody But Us,” held No. 6.
The track reinforces the sonic approach Man Vann Da has shaped since wrapping up his 2016–2018 independent era and signing to Baramey. That foundation was cemented by 2021’s “Time To Rise” with Master Kong Nay—which reached over 116 million views—and the 2022 release SKULL 2 (SEASON 1), alongside collaborations with Thai rappers F.HERO, 1MILL, and OG Bobby, and Awich on “6 Years In The Game.” Responding to the new release, one viewer pointed to that familiar collision: “i love the mix old and modern Style.”
“BAD LIL BOO” lands alongside 2025 singles “Business Class,” “U Know U Know,” and “J+O Zero 3.” The material sets up Baramey Production’s three-part album sequence—TREYVISAI I: THE SEARCH FOR LIGHT, TREYVISAI II: BURN LIKE THE SUN, and TREYVISAI III: RETURN TO SOVANNAPHUM—scheduled alongside concerts in Battambang and Phnom Penh.
When VannDa relocated from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh, he brought a specific vision for Cambodian rap: an uncompromising collision of Khmer lyricism, English bars, and modern hip-hop production. Signing to Phnom Penh’s Baramey Production in late 2018 after an early run of independent music, he pointed to hip-hop as the exact medium suited to his storytelling.
The breakthrough that cemented his position came in March 2021 with “Time to Rise,” featuring Master Kong Nay alongside contributions from Laura Mam, Andrew Mam, Vanthan, and Songha. The track hit one million YouTube views within 24 hours—a domestic first—and crossed 100 million views by October 2022, eventually climbing past 116 million. As one listener put it under a recent video, “At this point, you can’t mention Cambodia without mentioning VannDa.”
Rather than staying fixed on that single formula, VannDa has steadily pushed his catalog through Baramey and distribution partner EMPIRE. He followed his 2020 debut $kull the Album and 2022’s Skull 2 (Season 1) with a run of high-impact collaborative releases, teaming up with Japanese rapper Awich on “6 Years In The Game” in January 2024 before dropping “Sangkran Magic” and “Baby Mama” later that year. Across the border, a guest appearance alongside Suboi on Rap Viet Season 3 pulled over 1.3 million concurrent viewers across YouTube and VieOn.
VannDa broadened that sonic footprint in 2025 with his Treyvisai trilogy—The Search for Light, Burn Like the Sun, and Return to Sovannaphum—followed by the May 2025 release of “សុវណ្ណភូមិ (GOLDEN LAND)” and April 2026’s “ជួបជុំ (BACK HOME).” At home, his live presence expanded further through a major 2025 Super Concert partnership between VannDa, Baramey, and Tiger.
Around him, Baramey Production has built an interconnected roster featuring artists like Sophia Kao and veteran pop-rap duo Kmeng Khmer. It also provided the platform for Suzana Reth’s recent transition into Phnom Penh’s contemporary pop landscape. Suzana, who first emerged as a 16-year-old semi-finalist on The Voice Cambodia before signing with Rasmey Hang Meas, joined Baramey in 2024.
She immediately reframed her catalog with singles like “LOST,” “Better Off,” and “UNBROKEN (Satrey Serey)” featuring label head Laura Mam. The video for “UNBROKEN,” directed by Lomorpich Rithy (YoKi) of PlerngKob and driven by an all-women crew, was the first music video shot on location at Angkor Wat. Suzana quickly followed with tracks like “Where My Boo?” featuring Norith, “Oh Dear Mother!”, and the late-night slow burner “2AM” featuring YuuHai. Ahead of her scheduled U.S. appearance at Los Angeles’s Sabaidee Fest in July 2025, she dropped “Come Back Home” with YuuHai that August under Baramey and EMPIRE.
That momentum culminated when Suzana and VannDa formally crossed paths on “TIKI TIKI,” a standout cut released on YouTube alongside tracks like “ភ្លេីងស្នេហ៍ (REDLIGHT).” Built on fast cadences and club bounce, “TIKI TIKI” captures the exact pulse of modern Phnom Penh: young, fiercely local, and executed at full speed.
