Albanian pop right now sits between a glossy Balkan hook and a hard urban beat, and Dafina Zeqiri is pulling it together. Her sound, R&B and soul run through electropop and trap, suits a late room. Marin and Dafina's KIKI leans on a "bad, bad, bad" hook and a "fire" chorus about nightlife and money, while Dafina and Cllevio's Buza has been climbing trend lists in countries with large Albanian audiences. The nights run in Tirana, where Escape Premium Club's Escape Birthday paired Jozi's pop with the rap of MC Kresha and Lyrical Son, and in the diaspora, where a 90s/2000s party in Zurich pairs a live band with a DJ afterparty. Nostalgia and new heat share the same floor.
Nothing new came into the WorldWidePop playlist in October, so it held at six videos while the scene kept moving. That stillness is a story too. Dafina's catalogue and the ArkivaShqip channel anchor the set, and the standing tracks are the ones the crowd keeps returning to. Read the gap as a cue to watch for what comes next.
Listeners are mostly in Albania, with Kosovo close behind and a few in Croatia. Watch Dafina's next video, a shoot with Gjiko at Sëiss Diamond Hotel with RodNill producing, and the Zurich party on 24 October to see how far this format travels.
